I pushed the door open to return to our table and figure everything out, but as I approached the booth, Duncan and Micah were seated across from each other, and Nox was nowhere to be seen.

I didn’t ask where Nox was. I already knew he had left. Duncan was seething in his seat, and Micah sat across from her boyfriend with her lips turned down at the corners in a hint of a frown.

I slid onto the vinyl-covered bench next to Micah. She scooted in to accommodate room for me. Duncan proceeded to pinch the bridge of his nose with his thumbs and close his eyelids.

“I can’t believe you gave that asshole your virginity,” he said with a mixture of disgust from my supposedly traitorous relationship.

“Whaaaat? How did I not know you were a virgin? I’m supposed to be your best girlfriend.” Micah’s voice increased an octave in pitch.

My brother and my cousins understood I wanted to wait until I found the right guy, but I had never said anything to Micah. It wasn’t anyone’s business, and although it was private information, being raised around three boys and going through puberty with them, sex was a topic they shared a little too much.

I never had anything to contribute to the conversations. Duncan was the preceptive one that picked up on my virgin status, and eventually, Dayton and Dexter figured it out as well. They never gave me a hard time regarding my choice. In fact, they had made comments on more than one occasion about how cool it was that I was saving myself.

“I’m honestly a little hurt you didn’t share that extremely important information with me.” Now not only her pitch increased, but her volume as well.

“You are always so busy telling me about your sexcapades with my cousin I become nauseated from the ringing in my ears. I had to mentally squeeze my fingers into them and then attempt to change the subject.” I actually pressed my index fingers into my ears as I emphasized my point.

Her shoulders slumped forward. “I’m sorry, Darby. I shouldn’t be so insensitive. I figured you have lots of sex but didn’t kiss and tell. You always had a boyfriend in college.”

“Micah, even though I’ve always had a boyfriend doesn’t mean I slept with them.” I shrugged nonchalantly, and she brought her gaze back up to mine.

“But I bet it was amazing right?” Her questioning eyes widened, and the freckles across her nose danced with excitement. “Nox looks like a man that knows what to do to please a woman.”

A gagging noise interrupted her. We both swung our faces toward the retching sound, which Duncan had not only exaggerated with the heaving, but his hands were over his mouth like faux vomit would be captured in his cupped palms.

I shook my head and couldn’t suppress my eye roll. “I still don’t kiss and tell, but I really liked being with him.”

“No doubt it was a million times better than my first time with one pump Phillip.
